The Matariki tumblers are handmade by ceramic artist Claire Tane right here in New Zealand. They are a ceramic celebration of Tane's Māori heritage. Being the first year of Matariki being an officially recognised public holiday is a monumental moment for Tangata Whenua (people of the land) and by extension for all of us living here in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
To celebrate this moment as an indigenous artist, Claire wanted to create an everyday object that honoured this moment of cultural significance, and hence the Matariki tumblers were born.
A little bit about Matariki: Matariki marks the New Year in the Māori calendar. It is marked by the Matariki constellation appearing in our skies, and is a moment to reflect on the year that has passed while also looking ahead to the New Year.
This Blueberry colourway is a gradient from a soft blue to a seafoam green. Dimensions: 10cm tall x 8cm diameter.
Please note, due to the handmade nature of these items there are minor differences in the size and glazing. The price is per tumbler.
